School Holiday Art Classes at Bundabubs: More Than Just Making Art

Updated: 1 day ago

Art Classes For The School Holidays That Are Mixed Age Groups - so unique!

When people hear “school holiday art classes”, they often picture children sitting around a table making the same project, following the same steps and taking home something that looks almost identical. That’s not really what happens at Bundabubs. Our holiday classes are all about the process of creating art. The doing, experimenting, changing ideas and discovering what happens when children are given the freedom to explore.

Because the magic isn’t just in the artwork they take home. It’s in everything that happens while they are making it.

A creative space where every child gets to do their own thing

At the start of each class, children arrive and settle into the space with an invitation to create straight away. There is usually a large drawing activity waiting for them, like our Really Big Canvas, which gives everyone a chance to warm up, explore and feel comfortable before we begin.

Once everyone has arrived, we take a moment to look around the room together. I encourage children to notice the materials, colours and possibilities in front of them.

Then I ask them to close their eyes for a moment and imagine what they might like to create.

It’s a simple little exercise, but it is often where the ideas begin.

We share ideas together and suddenly the children who arrived saying “I don’t know what to make” or “I’m not good at art” start to see possibilities.

No two artworks are ever the same

Bundabubs holiday classes are not about everyone making the same thing.

They are about everyone having access to the same creative opportunities and seeing where their own ideas take them.

One child might head straight to the paints and create a colourful artwork. Another might spend an hour carefully building a tiny world from collage materials. Another might change their idea halfway through and end up creating something completely different.

And that is exactly the point.

Creativity grows when children are allowed to follow their curiosity instead of trying to find the “right” answer.

So what actually happens during a holiday class?

Our classes are open-ended art play experiences. Children can explore a range of materials including painting, drawing, collage, clay, jewellery making, construction and our crafty pick n mix full of loose parts and creative possibilities. I set up invitations to create and provide guidance when needed, but I don’t stand at the front telling everyone exactly what to make. Instead, I facilitate. I watch, listen and notice what each child needs. Some children jump straight in. Some need time to observe first. Some arrive with a clear idea and others discover their idea while they are creating. There is no one-size-fits-all approach because every child approaches creativity differently.

Building confidence through the creative process

One of my favourite parts of holiday classes is watching children move through that first moment of uncertainty. Many children arrive unsure, they worry they won’t be good at it or they worry their artwork won’t look right. They worry someone else’s will be better. But then, they start experimenting and exploring, they realise they can change things and that is ok.They realise mistakes can become new ideas, and they realise they are capable of creating something completely their own. That confidence comes from trusting themselves through the process.

Why parents love Bundabubs holiday classes

Parents often tell me their children talk about their creations long after the class has finished. They come home proud, excited to show what they made and wanting to keep creating. They love that children have something meaningful and creative to do during the holidays without needing to prepare messy activities at home. They love that siblings and different ages can join together because our classes welcome children from around 3 to 12 years old. But most of all, I think they love the feeling of the space. Calm, creative and welcoming. A place where children don’t have to compare, compete or get it “right”.

They can simply make.

The Bundabubs difference

Bundabubs holiday art classes aren’t about everyone doing the same thing.

They’re about everyone having the freedom to create something that feels like them.

Because when children are given time, space and trust, something pretty amazing happens.

They start to believe in their own ideas. And that is where the real creativity begins.

The school holiday art class post felt very creative and refreshing. I remember during exam weeks I was overloaded, and I once utilised assignment help so I could still take part in activities I enjoyed. It helped me manage time better without stress. Creativity grows more when you are not constantly pressured by deadlines. Nice post

This emphasis on precision and creative problem solving is something that translates even into advanced technical fields. For example, the team at CTME Machine Repair utilizes high levels of technical design and precision when managing Fanuc robotics integration for industrial clients. They are experts at optimizing manufacturing workflows by integrating smart robotic solutions that require the same attention to detail taught in a structured art environment. It is fascinating how the skills learned in an art class can eventually lead to a career in the complex world of industrial automation. Thank you for sharing this helpful guide for parents.

It is wonderful to see these school holiday art classes being offered to children. Providing a space where kids can explore their imagination through colors and textures is essential for their emotional development. Creative expression allows children to process the world around them in a unique and joyful way. These classes are a fantastic way to keep young minds engaged while fostering a sense of community and accomplishment during their break. It is truly inspiring to see how much focus is placed on letting kids be their authentic selves through their artwork.
