On Our Art Shelf: Art Books Kids Actually Use!

Updated: 6 days ago

These books have been tried, tested and recommended by kids - for real life! These are the books we come back to again and again in Art Play Club. They inspire creativity, spark conversations and remind us that art is about curiosity, expression and having a go

At Bundabubs Art Play Club we love using non-fiction art books for inspiring us to find new ways to get arty, practise drawing, doodling and use our creative brains at home, in our classes and on the go. Overheard at Art Play is our one stop shop for all the art books that kids actually love and use regularly at Art Play Club. Let us know if you have recommendations for us!

Art Books that kids actually use: recommended by kids for kids!
Art books we love and use regularly at Art Play Club

These books found their way into our classroom and we have been loving them! So many good ones to get your teeth into, so let's get into it!

  1. Let's Make Some Great Art ANIMALS by Marion Deuchars

The kids in class agree that they love how simple the instructions are to follow in this book and that all of the drawings come out so unique. One child said that they loved the collage page because they look really cool in the end. Another loved the origami style bunny page because it was the first time they had actually been able to make an origami anything!

  2. How to Draw Cute Stuff by Angela Nyugen

Probably one of if not THE most popular book we use in class. It is choc full of fantastically cute and adorable pictures to help you learn how to draw in the Kawaii style. All the instructions are very simple and every time kids finish trying a drawing and look at it they say "awwww!".

  3. Create Your Own Holiday Games by Lonely Planet

This book is sensational. It has all the old classics car games along with some truly brilliant new games to keep the whole family happy on holidays. We have used it during the two past school holidays and it is one we will keep using until we have done all the games twice! It is so much fun, so inspirational and we just love the creativity.

  4. 100 Ways To Rebuild The World by LEGO, Helen Murray

This is SO MUCH MORE than a Lego book. It is a way of life! It is probably the most genius book for getting kids and adults to be creative whilst also keeping in mind their friends, family, community and impact on the world. It is too fantastic for words so you will just have to buy it to see what I mean!
