These books have been tried, tested, and recommended by kids - for real life!
At Bundabubs Art Play Club, we love using art books to inspire creativity. We use them for various reasons:
To find new ways to get arty.
To practice drawing.
To learn doodling and zentangling.
To engage our creative brains by exploring different perspectives.
We use art books in class, at home, and on the go.

1. Art is Everywhere by Ellie Chan
This book is a gorgeous introduction to art for children. Through the character of Keith, an ostrich art historian, we learn that art can be found everywhere. Art can be anything a person uses to express themselves. This book wonderfully shows children the many ways they can be artists. It's a good reminder for adults too!

2. You Can Draw Tom Gates by Liz Pichon
This book is perfect for those who love doodling and need a bit of help to get started. You can learn to draw comic-style pictures like those in the Tom Gates books. My favorites are the monsters and the circle doodles; they are really addictive to draw!

3. The Dot
This wonderful book highlights one of our favorite messages: "Just Start." It carries a great message for those who don't feel creative or are hesitant to participate in art class—or any class! It shows that art is about much more than the finished product; it is about the process. This is something I discuss in our classes frequently!

4. Colour Blocked
My son LOVED reading Colour Blocked. He said, "I like that you could spin it, shake it, turn it, and it looks like the paint is pouring through a hole. It made me really want to paint and mix colors. I wish I could make a book like that!"

Why Art Books Matter
Art books are not just for reading; they are tools for exploration and creativity. They encourage children to express themselves and discover new techniques. Each book offers a unique perspective that can ignite a passion for art.
Engaging with Art
When kids engage with art books, they learn to appreciate different styles and mediums. This exposure can help them develop their artistic voice. It’s essential for children to understand that art is not confined to traditional forms.
The Benefits of Creativity
Creativity is crucial for a child's development. It fosters problem-solving skills, enhances cognitive abilities, and boosts self-esteem. Art books can play a significant role in nurturing these skills. They provide inspiration and guidance, making the creative process more accessible.
Building a Creative Environment
Creating a space where children feel free to explore their creativity is vital. Art books can be a part of that environment. They can serve as a source of inspiration and a way to learn new techniques.
