Halloween Sensory Play Activities for Little Ones

Oh, Halloween sensory is SO much fun! I adore all the textures, colors, and everything you can create with simple materials.

Our Mini Sensory Sessions are perfect for kids under 5 who love exploring with all of their senses. We use colors, lights, scented pens, and objects that make noises to excite and delight!

Simple and Engaging Activities

All of these Halloween sensory play ideas are designed with you in mind. If it’s simple enough, you can replicate it at home. Plus, it won't be too messy, time-consuming, or expensive. I aim to use items you would find around the house or cheaply at local shops.

I always found that when I kept things simple, my kids would play and play. We could reuse items like chickpeas, kinetic sand, playdough, and themed materials for Halloween and Christmas activities. The items I used today have been lovingly enjoyed by many classes over the years. It’s heartwarming to bring them out to new audiences and see their reactions!

Halloween-Themed Sensory Trays

Since this week was Halloween-themed, I wanted the sensory trays to be something you could easily replicate at home. These activities can keep your kids entertained and possibly serve as an alternative to trick-or-treating, which isn't for everyone.

Today, we made:

  • Ghost Collages: Using cotton wool, Halloween stickers, colored card, and felt—such delightful textures!

  • Colorful Skeletons: We used all our favorite paint sticks and scented markers.

  • Sensory Trays: Featuring cauldrons and pumpkin buckets filled with chickpeas and torn paper—perfect for little hands!

  • Light Station: Magnetic tiles for color exploration.

  • Play-Doh and Dress-Ups: A classic favorite!
